push button for a duck

As I crossed the road to get to Dalston Kingsland station this morning, I noticed something odd about the pedestrian crossing:

You pushed it, right? RIGHT???!!!

Did you get a duck???!!!!

JmC
Or did a bat swing at your head forcing you to duck?

banksy-eque gorilla art?! - cool

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
I pushed it before I noticed - my brain registered something wrong with teh word 'wait' before I did, which made me double take.

I checked the other 3, which were all perfectly ordinary.

I didn't get a duck :(

I know!

I love it!

That's made me really happy. Random acts of weirdness!
I have to go find it...

Did you ever see the 'Dalston Gentrified' poster hacking thing?

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Random acts of weirdness WIN!

'Dalston Gentrified'? I didn't see that.

To find the light in question - it's not the nearest crossing to Dalston Kingsland station, the one by the shoppign centre, but the one slightly further up towards stokey, on the opposite side of the road to the station, near the cake shop.

Did you get an actual duck? How lovely. :D

[identity profile] medusa-nw.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's brilliant! Any idea where it came from yet?

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
googling has revealed nothing!

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 11:39 am (UTC)(link)

Excellent! :)

I noticed a while ago that along the bus route through Dalston > Shoreditch > Old st there are things on top of most of the bus stop shelters which look like potatos painted with bright colours, with brightly coloured cocktail sticks and ear buds poked in them so they are a bit like sea urchins...
I loves them.

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen those! Will have to keep any eye out :)

[identity profile] a1exxandra.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
They are still there on the 243 route..they are ace!

This is obviously an example of popular culture that I am currently ignorant of.

That's quite marvellous. More pictures of random street art!

If I see any, I'll take some and post them, promise!

The one on the hoarding by the bus stop, right?

That was awesome - the only thing I regret is that they took it down the day before I was planning to go down there for a closer look, having only seen it from the bus.

It was awesome, I just found photos of it here on flickr, but in that pic you can't read all the little speech bubbles. It was wonderfully cynical stuff. It has been removed now, of course.

it's on flickr!
We were planning to go and take photos, but when we got there it had been removed :(

I can't work out how they did it - whether they managed to stand there and do all that detailed graffiti without getting caught, or whether they just nicked the panel, altered it and then took it back.

found more pics - some close ups so you can see the speech bubbles :)
