Goths in the Daily Mail...

Goth who walks fiancee on a leash is banned by bus driver who told him: 'No dogs allowed'

The Daily Mail reports that, basically, goths are treated like weirdos because they dress weird.

This is one reason I don't miss dressing crazy on a day-today basis any more.

I have my grannie's voice in my head going 'she'll catch her death going out dressed like that in weather like this'

Oh, daily mail.

The comments are comedy gold.

What idiots! What do they do when they go to work? Dress the same? Or don't they work? They would never get past a first stage interview dressed like this.

He looks like a work-shy scrounger to me, get a job and pay your way.

If he was a gentleman goth, he would loan her his coat.

"Dani Graves"? Oh dear.

Goths are all doley scroungers, and they *never* have good jobs.

;-)

The first two comments are more a comment on the average Daily Mail reader than the people being reported on. I entirely concur with the final one though, she looks chilly (not to mention silly but I uphold her right to look as daft as she may like in public despite the fact that she will more than likely regret it in a few years time).

Why the hell would anyone be walking their girlfriend on a leash anyway? I mean, fine at fetish nights or whatever, but hardly practical for everyday .

Man, he should just get her one of these:

Im wondering if the paper put them up to dressing up for the photo- surely you wouldnt dress like that to pop down the shops!?
Where i uphold the right of anyone to dress as they please, sometimes its just provocative- and asking for hostility and ignorance.I dunno- maybe im just getting old- but i dont see the point- it spoils going out proper- cos then youve got to really dress up! Gimme jeans and t shirt for everyday wear any day.Its bad enough having coloured hair.

i must be turning into your grannie, because i thought the exact same thing. >.< tasha, honey, aren't you cold? you look silly with a leash on but whatever floats your boat, but can't you still wear it with, i dunno, long sleeves and some outerwear?

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, it sounds like they're not being treated badly because they dress funny, they're being treated badly because they're taking a scene out on the street. While I fully support their right to do whatever they like in private, taking a BDSM scene into the public domain and expecting to be treated normally is perhaps stretching it a bit.
I mean, yes the driver sounds like a twat too, I don't think he's in the right, but I'm not sure they really are either, y'know?

I am ashamed to admit that when I was 17, I let my then boyfriend walk me down the street on a leash. It was the only thing I could actually get a rise out of my mother on, so I milked it (everything else paled in comparison to my brother's previous gothsploits). Thankfully, I had wisdom enough to stop doing it (after a while), and I never sunk so low as to give myself a moniker such as "Dani Graves".

*hides in shame*

I love John's comment. :D

Why on earth did they go to the Daily Mail, of all papers, with their story?

[identity profile] stylishbastard.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
They both look like UTTER TWATS. It's not that they look weird that annoys me..it's just the desperate I LOOK WEIRD, PLEASE MAKE SOMETHING OF IT AS I BUY ALL MY CLOTHES AT THE OFFICIAL GOTH SHOP AND THEY COST LOADS demeanor.

I don't think it's fair on people who might have to explain to little kiddies why Mr G has his gf on a leash.

aw, that there John sounds like a sweetie!

I think my main issue is that they are clearly causing 'a scene'. It seems almost blatent attention whoring.

Again, maybe it's a generation thing (God, am I really getting old enough to say that?), but for me having a collared partner has a specific meaning, that only gets shown or shared at fetish friendly events.
How can you expect it to not cause a scene?

FWIW the bus driver does sound like an idiot, but then so do Dani and future Mrs Graves :/

I'd like to meet the person who made that first comment. Manager of call centre and still wearing black...and wore fishnet to my job interview. SO NYERRRR!!! (But not a goth no more damnit)

Though that girl really should put on a cardie or something.

[identity profile] pheadrablashyrk.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL...

they are young and obviously just trying to shock... i remember the days of wanking up leyton high street in fishnets a pvc thong and a corset and not much else to catch the tube to go to slimes...

In hindsight what uttter madness dressed like that on my own! and i do feel like a complete twat for it! and if i saw someone do it now id think attention whore!

one day they'll get over it and realise that being a "goth" is not about trying to shock the general public lol!

I like his comment "I've been dressing goth all my life"...so his parents were goths and put him in black nappies?

[identity profile] deviblue.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
What hes wearing is fine

What shes wearing is fine (although not exactly the best thing to wear in a cold and wet part of the country)

its the dog chain that makes them look like a pair of cocks.

...and his name

Well Id have sympathy.

Except both of them are so stunningly stupid they actually talked to the Sun and posed for a photo.

So Sympathy gone.

Also their sole plan is to immeadiately have children which they obviously cant afford to support. Although it is the Sun so that might not be true.

However anyone who talks to the Sun probably is the sort of waste of space who thinks that breeding is a god given right that every other persopn should pay for.

The Bus Drivers a git though.... Dogs are allowed on bus's. Certainly Stage Coach and all London busses.

The Bus Drivers who claim they arent are probably liars. Usually its an excuse to keep the big issue vendor from getting home.

Three times Ive had a busdriver off his bus and talking to his 'managers' for trying to pull that one.
