Smiles

Can you tell the fake smile from real one?

I spy a few familiar faces in there ;)

I also got 20/20, which must mean I'm some sort of empathic GENIUS. Or that it was really easy.

I got 7/20. No wonder I find social interaction so difficult!

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe I really AM an EMPATHIC GENIUS.

Or that Malcolm Gladwell's 'Blink' really did change me...

[identity profile] madwitch.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I am almost as good as you. I got 16/20. Whee!

[identity profile] ant-girl.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I got 13/20. Interestingly, of the ones I got wrong, I was much more likely to rate a genuine smile as fake than a fake smile as genuine. So I must be inherently distrusting. ;-)

How did Pete Moomin get in there?

I hit 18... What I found most interesting was that most of the time, I didn't even wait for the clips to finish. I decided almost instantly whether they were lying or not >.>

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
and spikeylau too!!

Probably because it was a BBC thing, and they just got their employees to do it. Cheaper than extras!

[identity profile] blu-matt.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
16/20 - holy crap!

Saying that, I mostly went for the ones that looked like they were laughing, which I guess means a genuine smile.

[identity profile] blu-matt.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I spotted him in there. ;-)

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here, it was almost immediate for me. About half way through I was thinking this is to easy, it must be a TRAP.

But apparently not. I'm just good at spotting fake smiles!

I think I am quite good at it, generally, but much of the time I don't like to think that people are fake-smiling, so I pretend to myself that they aren't!!

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Not bad at all :)

It said at the end that it's all in the eyebrows - which is perhaps why it's hard to tell with goths, so many of them have them shaved off and drawn back on again :D

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
20/20; I've read Blink too, and thought it was pretty good! :-)

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe that's the key - we've learned to trust that first instinct!! We're thin-slicing!

I loved that book. It really and truly turned me around, I think.

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I was looking at the movement of the muscles around the eyes, not just going on first impressions!

It's an ace book, although I'm not sure I agreed with all of it, and there were points where it kind of seemed to be going off track a bit. Some really interesting stuff in there though.

[identity profile] blu-matt.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I get too distracted by nice eyebrows to pay any attention as to whether they're smiling or not. :-)

16 out of 20.

[identity profile] alabastamasta.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
18/20
Guess we hang around with enough fakers to spot genuine people more accurately than most! =P

[identity profile] brain-opera.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
18 for me!

[identity profile] silentbob9484.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I got 15/20, not too bad.

[identity profile] pygar.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
17, and the ones i missed were genuine which i had called fake. i guess that means i am disstrusting.

On an unrelated note...I didnt manage to leave that black, off the shoulder gypsy top at yours the other night did I? The one with the flappy bit on top, not the small boob one.

To be fair I was v drunk when looking for it last night so I probably do have it! Will try again later....

[identity profile] spoox.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
17/20. It was relatively easy in most cases but there were a few fakes that I thought were real.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_alexandra_/ 2008-01-23 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
17/20. And I'm glad I got Laurence and Pete's smiles right, else I'd be much uneasy about them in future!

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If it doesn't turn up, let me know, I'll check the Big Bag Of Stuff!

[identity profile] blu-matt.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of missing clothing, did I leave a beanie-type hat (with a large grey S&Xbones on it) at yours in December?

Two lost hats in as many months - I'm only worse with magic gloves...

[identity profile] emmelinemay.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not seen one. Sorry!

[identity profile] blu-matt.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries, it was a long shot. :-) Just a bit miffing 'cos it was a birthday present from my sis and quite a cool hat too! :-)

[identity profile] girfan.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I also got 20/20!

[identity profile] crazymeandave.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
16.

isn't one of the smilers from screenwipe too?

[identity profile] pheadrablashyrk.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
