Scab? I like to pick them actually.
Ok, this is annoying me.
Strike
A work stoppage undertaken in support of a bargaining position or in protest of some aspect of a previous agreement or proposed agreement between labor and management.
boycott
To abstain from or act together in abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with as an expression of protest or disfavor or as a means of coercion.
If you refrain from posting today, you are not striking unless you work for LJ and your job is to post. You are boycotting LJ, as a user of LJ's services.
Ok? good. Not that anyone 'striking' today is reading, oh no. That's it, DON'T READ. That'll teach them.
p.s. if you're that bothered about adverts, may I recommend adblock or Remove It Permanently. If you're not using firefox, well, you SHOULD.

One time when I went to Addenbrookes in Cambridge there were a bunch of staff outside protesting, so I made the rather unwise decision to tell them, "I thought nurses always said if you picket it won't get better".

People are 'striking' (although it's really a boycott) by not posting today, as if that will somehow make LJ realise what a terrible idea it was, or something.
I will say, LJ introduced some of the changes in a rather underhand manner, by just taking it away, without announcing it or anything. That's not on. But really, LJ is a business, and we're users, and why should we feel like we're entitled to any service for free? Ads aren't actally that annoying anyway, if you have adblock.
As far as I can see, the only people really upset about this are people that are seriously into their fanfiction or role play on LJ, and so have a number of different accounts in different names.
Both
But YMMV.
People that already have ad-free basic accounts can keep them, they won't become free with ads accounts, it only applies to new members.
