I felt as if I was on a capitalist pilgrimage as I walked to the centre from the new Wood Lane station along with everyone else who'd been on the same train, and actually felt my stomach flip as I saw the glittering shops full of promise, tempting me in - enter me they said. Enter me, touch my wares, love me, buy me, take me home and I will bring you joy forever. It's like Mecca, a temple to consumerism, a religion for the 21st century.
