calling all girls and creative people
i need to somehow construct a bra i can wear with backless stuff.
the 'backless' straps i bought are only good for very low backed things, as they still have visible straps which look a bit *ick* with real backless clothing. you can see from my icon how low the tattoo is - my usual bra strap falls just over where the long part down my spine has two upward spikes.
i've tried - believe me - braless is *not* an option.
the suction cup thingies look evil, and don't exist in a 30D.
i have some old bras i can cut up for experiment purposes.
one thought - cut all straps off bra - put two corset grommet things in each side, and one at the top of each cup. thread some type of strong black lacing type material through the holes, and tie the bra to me. This way, the lacing should look like the lacing on the backless top, right? or it should at least provide support without looking really trashy.
Would it work though? And does anyone know how to put those grommet things in in the first place?
Any other suggestions? (yes i have tried tape, and no it didn't work, and yes it did hurt when i took it off)

i need to make a bra that you can't see *any* bra strp looking things round the back, or the side.

from above.
i *have* those, they are no good for actual backless clothes, only low back stuff.

However this will only allow you, so far as I can work out, to have straps that don't look like straps, not a clear back to display tattoo unencumbered.
I too can only suggest the utterly impractical, such as a moulding for your front made of the advanced plastic stuff they made me a support from after my back op. Sorry. {need wry lip-shrug icon/symbol!}

i have see through bra strap thingies, but you can still see them, and they look just like see through plasticy straps. not terribly elegant.
a trip to john lewis may have to be made then... thanks!

Could you modify the sticky-cup things with a gromit and halterneck lace to make them work?
Could you take the cups and wires of a push up style bra and run ribbons from the back of each wire, under your arms to your neck and loop around each other there for more 'upness' and then more ribons from the middle front of the wires around your waist?

the ribbons idea sounds good.. i think i shall need your help!!
seeing as weneed to get together to find nubers for preacher, shall we work out aday, and i bring over some material and a few old bras and we can experiment?

The tool-less grommets sound brilliant, but if you should have a problem...

The advantage is that it looks like a gun holster from behind ;-)

i don't know how much support that would give though, um, ahem, uplift wise!

Or http://www.feelpretty.com/exstrapbacbr.html but cant see that on a UK site

the second looks more likely - and in a D cup too! not much uplift likely, but definitley better that nothing! i'll look into that one.
My idea was basically to cut bits of a bra til it looked like the secnd picture, then tie it on with spagetti straps, seeing as most of the backless tops i have tie with spagetti straps.

Cut the back off an underwire halter-neck bra, and tape around the bottom and sides (just under your arm). Yes, the tape will hurt when peeled off, but nowhere near as much as on your breasts. This is more of a special-occasion method than a regular-use one.
You can also buy individual bra cups at a sewing/fabric store (intended for use in swimsuits, and they are available in D cups) that are slightly padded and would offer some uplift -- you could sew those *into* the offending garment itself, thus making into a garment-with-bra.
And I think that your grommet/lacing suggestion would work too!!
-- Andi, eagerly awaiting your results, because I have the exact same problem!!

(I was just in the store today) However, it isn't much of a push-up type bra.
I think, if you took a bra, cut off all straps, and the band which goes around the back (but only part-way like the one above), then put grommets on the top of each cup and one at the top and bottom of the back (well, now side) band on either side. I'd use clear lacing to tie them through, and then pull them tight, and secure them. The top holes on either cup should probably be fixed halter-style.
By the way: you can actually just buy grommets which you can push through a small hole in fabric, rather than having to buy the whole machine to set them in - I think I still have some I could send you. Let me know.

your description is pretty much what i thought i'd try, only explained better!! grommets would be *most* useful :) fankoo!

I had success with something similar- my problem being that I needed proper bra type support under a swimming costume for aquarobics.
