Hollywood actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at a downtown Manhattan residence, a New York Police Department spokesman has said.

Fuck. This is awful. I really liked him, and his fame was set to skyrocket when the next batman film came out.

How awful :(

He split up with Michelle Williams, the mother of his child, in September; maybe that hit him hard?
Someone elsewhere has suggested he may have taken sleeping pills to help him sleep, and then woken up, been slightly fuzzy-headed,a nd taken some more, and ended up accidentally ODing that way.

Whatever the cause, it's really sad, and I feel for his daughter.

The interviewer found Ledger complaining he had been unable to sleep. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going," Ledger said. He confided to the reporter that he took a prescription sleeping pill and, when that failed, took another.

I've been prescribed sleeping pills, strong ones. They'd only give you 2 at a time, because they could be habit forming, and because 3 or 4 were enough to OD.

I know.

I was a bit too young, and not really in to film stars when River Phoenix died, but many of my friends were really upset.

I understand how they felt now - Heath Ledger is one of those actors where I've sort of been following his career from the early films he did, I've always really liked him. Heath Ledger and Christian Bale are probably my two favourite actors. I was so looking forward to Batman - I'll be lucky if I can get through it without crying.

It's tragic. Such a talented guy. So young.

I think sushidog was right when they mentioned his breakup with Michelle Williams because I do think that probably hit him quite hard.

However, sadly, the truth, like most things, is probably somewhere in between. Some people are just not that tough and the world takes it's toll on the chi of the gentle souls out there.
