emmelinemay: (Stormer bitch pls)
An LJ friend, [livejournal.com profile] mnowster, has pointed me towards this site:

http://politicsandthecity.com/

and she's put down my issues with it in much better words than I can manage, so I hope she doesn't mind that I quote her:

Now I'm not _particularly_ up/into politics, however I DO care about what's going on, so thought the site sounded like a good idea.

WRONG.

It is basically a glammed up typical, you're a woman, therefore you MUST love pink, you MUST like gossip and MUST be interested in an animated tale about a clumsy journalist and her ill-fated love life while she accidentally becomes MP for a borough, because how else could you possibly understand politics. WTF?

Why, why,why if it's got to be aimed at women does it "seem" to _always_ assume, it MUST be pink, there MUST be gossip/celebrities/fashion. And any other content MUST be wrapped up in a sugar coated girly magazine way.

Am I the only intelligent woman in this world who is not interested in PINK being the only colour in everything, couldn't give a monkeys about gossip and thinks fashion has it's place but it does NOT rule my life?

NO. I can't be, I know I'm not cos I know some of you lot but for f**ks sakes. This does nothing but perpetuate that women/politics don't mix unless you could have a fashion MP or some real life version of the film Clueless only in a politics setting.

Personally, the website's clumsy phrasing and occasionally horrific grammar is the nail in the (pink, fluffy, celebrity endorsed) coffin.

For example - Clare Staples world through her dog’s eyes ‘Mr Big’, a new and wonderful perspective into her life.

I've just noticed the poll on the first page. A searing in-depth and tricky question which tests our political knowledge and encourages intellectual debate.

Who do you think will win the next election? Labour, Conservative, or Liberal Democrat?

Could someone please read Lily Cole's blog and tell me:
A - what the hell she's on about
B - what it has got to do with politics
and
C - Why is her elbow bigger than her head?
