emmelinemay: (Death Rocks Out)
I've been thinking about this matching funds with Terry Pratchett thing a lot lately.

I'd really like to do something to raise money. Something in the spirit of Terry Pratchett and his books. Something suitably silly. Maybe something really public, so we look like idiots in Leicester Square or something like that for money.

Maybe a sponsored Discworld-sit-on-a-lion-athon, where we all sit on a lion dressed as characters from Discworld¹.

Or perhaps a sponsored ook-athon, where you dress as orang-outangs all day and communicate only in 'ooks'.

Maybe a sponsored read-a-thon - get as many people as possible in one place dressed as characters trying to read a different discworld² book in under 3 hours.

What do you reckon? Do you have any good ideas for a thing-athon for Mr Pratchett?

I'd really love to give something back, to be honest, his books actually changed my life in a significant way, although it sounds unlikely. At the age of 16, when I was a very lonely, troubled and difficult teenager, I met some of my very dearest friends through a conversation about Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, which ended up with an invite to a 'Pratchett Party in the woods' where I first met some of those people who are now most important and dearest to me, even if I don't see them as often as I'd like.

Who's up for a silly-thing-a-thon?

Edit - Witches and Wizards (and assorted divers characters) Readathon in Leicester Square. With Tea. And maybe cake. Who's up for it?

[1] - I just wrote 'discoworld' then. Twice.
[2] - make that 3 times

I am probably the last person to have heard the Umbrella ella ella song by Rhianna, I heard it for the first time a few months ago. I clearly live under a rock.

I am now enjoying this cover version of it by some emo band I've not previously heard of, even though the first 20 seconds of the video are probably some of the most disturbing images ever committed to film. (worksafe, assuming your work are ok with emo boys in dresses being soaked by buckets of water.)

In other news, why am I so bloody contrary? When I have short hair, even though it suits me, all I can think about is having long hair and growing it. When it starts actually growing (it's just past my shoulder when I blow dry it straight) all I can think about is having it cut all short and cute. But if I do that, I'll wish it was long!

Bah.

This isn't the greatest issue I have with my life, of course, but when there are bigger things to worry about, hair is a good conduit for frustration.
