thing-athon?
Apr. 11th, 2008 09:42 amI've been thinking about this matching funds with Terry Pratchett thing a lot lately.
I'd really like to do something to raise money. Something in the spirit of Terry Pratchett and his books. Something suitably silly. Maybe something really public, so we look like idiots in Leicester Square or something like that for money.
Maybe a sponsored Discworld-sit-on-a-lion-athon, where we all sit on a lion dressed as characters from Discworld¹.
Or perhaps a sponsored ook-athon, where you dress as orang-outangs all day and communicate only in 'ooks'.
Maybe a sponsored read-a-thon - get as many people as possible in one place dressed as characters trying to read a different discworld² book in under 3 hours.
What do you reckon? Do you have any good ideas for a thing-athon for Mr Pratchett?
I'd really love to give something back, to be honest, his books actually changed my life in a significant way, although it sounds unlikely. At the age of 16, when I was a very lonely, troubled and difficult teenager, I met some of my very dearest friends through a conversation about Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, which ended up with an invite to a 'Pratchett Party in the woods' where I first met some of those people who are now most important and dearest to me, even if I don't see them as often as I'd like.
Who's up for a silly-thing-a-thon?
Edit - Witches and Wizards (and assorted divers characters) Readathon in Leicester Square. With Tea. And maybe cake. Who's up for it?
[1] - I just wrote 'discoworld' then. Twice.
[2] - make that 3 times
