emmelinemay: (Text - Be the change you wish to see)
It's been a while since I did a post about this, I'm probably well overdue.

I was on a first aid course on Sunday for Brownies, and a question was asked about whether or not CPR can actually save lives. The scoutmaster taking the session said yes, but perhaps not always in the way you think. He then told us a story about a local boy, only 9 years old, one of his scouts, who'd died recently, in really sad and shocking circumstances. I knew who he was talking about, I'd seen it in the Hackney Gazette. He said that the paramedics that got there carried out CPR until the ambulance arrived, even though it was apparent at that time that the young boy would not make it. The CPR meant that the boy's organs were not damaged through lack of oxygen, and although the boy died, his mother has said that she finds peace knowing that the boy's organs have saved the life of 4 other children who will live on now.

Four children live due to the selflessness and generosity of that brave woman, who as she mourned for her own son was able to think of the mothers of those other children, and the lives of those children.

If you die, and you own a house, and all the furniture, you don't need that furniture, do you? Sure, You've slept in that bed your whole life, sat on that sofa and watched that TV for so many years, but you're gone now. Why keep all that furniture in that empty house? You don't need it, you can't take it with you.

If you do just one thing today, then make that one thing registering for organ donation.

you can do it online and it takes less than 5 minutes.

Give someone a chance to live on when you are gone. Leave a real living breathing legacy of your generosity and love of life.
