we saw Gangs of New York today.
I thought it was an incredible, breathtaking, powerful film. It's jumped right up there into my mental list of great films (Shawshank Redemtion, Green Mile, American Beauty, Shindlers List - to name a few).
DiCaprio is actually really good, but Daniel Day Lewis is extraordinary - i think he is an amzing actor. You can see every fibre of his being is so into the person he's portraying, the way he walks, the way he breathes even.
The story is excellent, and despite it being a long film you never fidget (unlike at the Pianist on monday), and it is VERY violent, but it's really well done, and never feels gratuitous. The scenes are perfectly set, the cinamatography fantastic. I cannot talk about this film enough!
I thought it was bloody brilliant.
