From XFM -
I shall be downloading it - not because I'm a Charlatans fan; I do like them, but I've never bought an album of theirs, I've seen them live but only becasue they were supporting someone else.
I shall be downloading it because I want to send an important message to the Music Industry - that this is the way I want my music.
So even if you're not a Charlatans fan, go check out the album. At worst, you won't like it much, you'll have spent nothing but will have still sent a message about music downloads. At best, not only will you be making a point, you might discover that you love the Charlatans, something you'd never have known if the CD was in the shops for £10.
In a music industry first, today The Charlatans have become the first band
to release their album for free in association with a radio station,
namely, Xfm.

Charlatans lead singer Tim Burgess explains, "We want 'the people' to own
the music and we want the artist, i.e. us, to own the copyright."
"Why let a record company get in the way of people getting the music?"
