It's getting weirder and weirder, isn't it?

It really is.

Whether or not they're found guilty, neither of those men will be able to return to that council estate - they'll be lynched!

Absolutely. God, that poor child, and that poor mother! :-(

I know. I can't even imagine what the family is going through right now!

I loved that story. It just got weirder and weirder as more details came out. Now he's saying he thought his wife was having an affair, which is why he 'came back from the dead'.

This has that horrible bleak factor inevitable when children are involved :(

Yes, but both stories have that slow motion train wreck sort of aspect to them, plus a sense right from the start that something incredibly fishy was bubbling away just under the surface of what initially appears to be a fairly straightforward story. I feel terrible about finding the Shannon Matthews story so entertaining in a fascinatingly macabre kind of way, but I can't look away.

It's not uncommon for paedophiles to deliberately build relationships with vulnerable single mothers with younger children to facilitate access to the kids - that's what I was wondering when the news was on this morning.

Yeah, I've read about that before. I read that often the mother has a sort of awareness sometimes, but either turns a blind eye to it, or just can't imagine it at all.

Years ago, when I was a teenager, Grannie and I were convinced one of my Mum's boyfriends was more interested in me than her. To be fair, they did often try to curry favour with her trhough me, but even as a teenager you can see the line between 'your mum will like me if you do' and creepy. No idea if Mum ever noticed, I didn't tell her and I don't know if Grannie did. Mind you, Grannie would discount Mum's boyfriends on the basis of things like "I don't like him Amanda, he's strange. He never took his hat off once."

That's just too awful to think about.
