Fight for freedome from harrasment
Aug. 21st, 2004 03:46 pmWe are no less than 50% of the population, yet women silently endure this sort of thing every day. One cannot walk to the corner store in rollers and a trench coat without being harassed. At what point does your right to security outweigh freedom of speech?
In the UK there are new "anti-social behavior" laws. So I have an idea: the next time, and every time, you are sexually harassed on the street, approach them with a smile, ask for their name and phone number (which in the subsequent joy of their "success" they will doubtless give you) then TURN IT IN TO THE POLICE. If we don't do anything about this then we will continue to live in fear. Cut and paste this in your journal, or in any forum. Something needs to be done about this.
