but it's Emmie and not Emmy.
It's one of those awkward things, isn't it? You don't want to embarass someone or make them feel bad by correcting them, but after you've let it slide for a while then you feel like it's too late to say anything. And then when you do say something, you feel silly, because it's really not that important.
Throughout most of my life I've spent many weeks in various places called, by various people, Emily, Emma, Amy, Abby and Ellie; and been too embarassed to say anything.
Have any of you experienced this? If i've been saying/spelling your name wrong for the last few years, please tell me now!

Date: 2006-09-19 11:31 am (UTC)It's just that i've noticed the 'Emmys' creeeping in, from people who've known me for years, and i thought maybe it was tme to mention it...
I assume it's people who've been using 'Emmie' and seen other people using 'Emmy' and gone 'crap, i've got it wrong'!

A nickname of mine is "Chaff" which gets spelled and pronounced all sorts of ways.

Mazz, which should be easier to get right but it has been mis-construed into Mads, Mars, Maz. It's 2 z's dammit..2..I'm greedy and it's my name! ;)

Date: 2006-09-19 12:11 pm (UTC)This reminds me of a friend I had while doing my A-levels. Our biology tutor always called Niamh "Ni-am". Niamh, being quite shy didn't immediately correct her and after that of course it was too late. There was a horrible moment about 6 months later where the poor tutor overheard another classmate addressing Niamh properly: she was mortified!

Date: 2006-09-19 09:59 pm (UTC)you could look on the bright side and think that at least you have a memorable name, unlike sarah which is so common almost everyone knows how it sounds and is spelt (it's either with an h or without).
though i have been very confused as to how non dyslexic english-speaking people could spell my name sahra or sarha on occasion.
