We went to The Cross Kings for lunch today, it's just down the road from my work, just up the road from Kings Cross.

It used to be 'The backpackers' which was horrible, and has been boarded up for ages. Now it's a really quirky tardis like place, with really nice bar staff and random furniture and big sofas and bizarre décor and eclectic music and VEGAN choices on the really reasonably priced menu. I had the most yummy smoked tofu and lentil burger with salad and hummus in a fresh baked wholemeal ciabatta, for £4. They do the same menu for lunches and evenings, only you can ask for a small portion for £4 or have a big one for £8.

I can't tell you how good the beer selection is, for i do not drink such things, but they had an impressive selection of liqueurs and shots ;)

Hurrah for Nice Places To Go near work. Also pre-clubbing venues possible, as it's minutes from kings cross.

it had this really chilled atmosphere, the staff just seemed really relaxed, and there's HUGE big comfy sofas. It's like the opposite of a Lloyds bar, all theme and corners and tidiness.

There are even flying ducks on the wall :)

I might be heading there for lunch a fair bit, as they do hummus and fresh bread for £2! Am totally up for checking it out of an evening too. The comms department are having their xmas meal there, i'm jealous! We're having ours at The Other Side which i don't like much.

The backpackers sign is still there, but that's pretty much it. It doesn't look like a pub, it looks like a huge odd living room with a bar in the middle!
