a conversation with S at work lead us, somewhat circuitously, onto the subject of ED209.

I used to have a recurring nightmare, when I was really young, (too young to have really been allowed to watch Robocop, but never mind!) about ED209. I used to dream that i was running away from it, as it told me i had decreasing numbers of seconds to comply, and i would run down the stairs, stop and look up, knowing that ED209 can't do stairs. I'd see its feet, flexing in the way they do in that close up in the film, and then ED209 would start walking down the stairs after me.

I'd usually wake up then.

My brain is strange. I'd totally forgotten about that dream!

It's quite odd, as i actually think ED209 is rather cute - especially rolling on the floor. You want it to say 'Help. Help. I. Have. Fallen. And. I. Cannot. Get. Up.'

I used to have nightmares about Daleks, K9 and Duncan the Dragon. My theory in each case is the sense of inhumanity, even of things that were ostensibly cute but hewn of metal and clacky wood.

Bizarre! I hadn't thought about it before, but you're right, ED209 is kinda cute. This is so weird! < grins >
