The prevalence of this sign (this one is on the back door of my office) across london makes me happy. Hurrah for the smoking ban!

I've noticed recently that my bicycle pump is, uh, somewhat suggestive. Maybe it's just me, and i have a dirty mind, but...

And a story from brownies -

They had to write about things they've enjoyed at Brownies this term. One girl, who is normally hard to shut up, has a blank piece of paper in front of her. "I can't remember what I've done!' she says. "I have a really bad memory! I tried to jog my memory by falling out of a tree onto my head, but now I can't remember anything. Who are you again?".

Later, she is the last to be picked up and is messing about on her scooter, and falls off. "I fell off! not on my head though" she tells me. "Did it jog your memory?" I ask her. She replies, "hmm. Let's see...oh my god! It's all coming back! I'm 10 years old! I play the violin! I'm a great disappointment to my sister!"

Made me laugh :D

I'm loving the smoking ban. After I gave up smoking, I thought smoke was pretty gross but it didn't bother me that much, however it now triggers my morning sickness very badly; if I'm lucky, I just retche and gag, if I'm not I'll start being sick and have to hope that I can stop myself. Grim, huh? My journal home was hell every night and it's wonderful now.

I haven't yet been in a public place where there would ordinarily have been smoke, so can't comment on how nice it [doubtless] is.
Wading through crowds of smokers outside every public place is less fun, though - trying to get a bus yesterday I had to run a smokers' slalom, dodging around them as they waved their fags around expansively, trying not to breathe in.

I've managed to avoid those so far. London Bridge station is very good because smoking is also banned underneath the bus station canopy so you don't have to deal with everyone congregating around the entrance for a last puff.

I don't know whether the new law covers smoking near entrances. I know when I was in California (and still smoked) you had to like 15 feet away from the entrance of some (all?) buildings.

Many buildings now have 'Please don't smoke here' signs in the entrances, but pubs don't as yet. If it's not part of the Smokefree law already, I imagine the 15ft rule may come into play soon.

they have it outside our building - people used to smoke on the fire escape and you're not allowed to now.

It always struck me as sort of stupid that it was allowed on the fire escape at all...

Of course, that might have a *teeny* impact on the "Smoking-related" column in the "Cause of Death" options when it came to the post-mortem! :P

I love the no-smoking sign also :-) Although in fact have not been into a pub or similar since Sunday (sat outside the pub on Tuesday due to lack of seats). I did though go to the local greasy spoon at Sunday lunchtime, and was v pleased to see a nice sand-bucket outside the door & to be able to eat my terribly unhealthy chips'n'beans without other people's smoke.

I might have to go clubbing this weekend just to see how venues are coping...

i love that top. It was £6 in bershka last summer - i WISH i'd bought more! They did them in about 6 colours, i only bought this one and the green one, and i totally regret not also getting the white, red, purple and pink ones!!
