Portland, or Copenhagen. I'm a big fan of the small city and both have the right kind of vibe to me.

It's a special made up for the internet word.

Immigrate; to ignore what spellcheck is telling you.

I used to be amused by one of the HR people at a former workplace who had a habit of sending out emails with the phrase, "this will effect all employees". My usual thought was, "no, that was their parents".

The people I work with still have trouble with their/there/they're and your/you're. And these people are in charge of other people's money.

So many people have problems with effect/affect. But they don't even SOUND the same. If people just took two minutes to re-read what they'd written aloud...

In school in SA I remember being taught to both immigrate and emigrate, specifically to use immigrate when discussing movement into the country you're in and emigrate when discussing leaving for another.

I have always seen is spelled 'immigrate'.
Perhaps it is one of those words that the US spells differently than all the rest of the English speaking world. Such as color and colour, theater and theatre, etc.
